Children's Folklorico Tutorial - Los Machetes

Los Machetes.jpg

Hello Dance Teachers and Students!

Like most of you already know, I teach over 60 children ages 2 to 17 on a weekly basis. I’ve worked with children since before I graduated from CSULA with my degree in social work in 2011, and also happen to be the eldest of 10 siblings ( I know, that’s a lot). Teaching children is my thing and that’s why I’m so excited to be sharing my first Folklorico Tutorial for children with you today.

The name of the song in this Tutorial is “Los Machetes,” by Mariachi Vargas. It’s usually one of the first dances that I teach my beginning students ages 5-9. It only has 4 steps and can be easily modified to fit the needs of your children/students. This song is also perfect for teachers who are trying to teach their students how to follow the tempo of the music. This tutorial shows footwork and skirting, but if you’re lucky to have boys in your class, it’s the perfect song to get them intrigued with wooden machetes! Thanks for watching and if you have any questions, please comment below.

Good luck!

Maestra Kareli
